Co-owners Mary (a Friendswood resident) and Esmeralda (from Pearland) met at church after Mary lost her husband of 30 years to COVID. Mary would quietly slip out after prayers, her grief heavy and quiet. Esmeralda noticed, and in an act of grace and kindness, offered to walk beside her in her pain.
That small gesture turned into something extraordinary.
* Please note that since this article has gone live, we have been informed that this business is now soley managed by Esmeralda.

Esmeralda—a true creative and visionary—had the idea of a refresqueria, a vibrant snack shop serving cold, colorful, handmade treats. With a spark of inspiration and a leap of faith, they built Cielito Lindo together.
What is exactly is a refresqueria? Think of it as your go-to snack spot with Mexican-inspired bites—serving up raspas/raspadas (snow cones), paletas (popsicles), mangonadas (sweet and spicy frozen treat), ice cream, aguas frescas (fresh fruit waters), fresh fruit, and classics like elote (corn) in a cup.
A Family Affair with Roots in Matamoros
Every treat at Cielito Lindo is handmade with love, using fresh, 100% natural ingredients. Many ingredients and candies are sourced directly from Matamoros, Mexico; ensuring authenticity and freshness.
Esmeralda leads the creative side, crafting every ice cream and snack with an artisan’s touch. Esmeralda's teenage son and daughter often work behind the counter, making this a true family-run business.
